Luctus: 'Jaučiant Pabaigą Arti'
"Feeling the End Is Near" – this is English title of the new Luctus album & premier full-length, 'Jaučiant Pabaigą Arti', for Ledo Takas Records, and in reality it marks rather a new beginning for this ruthless ambitious thrashing black metal entity, wandering since 2001 between Rome, Italy and Kaunas, Lithuania, with recordings of current release accomplished in semi-legendary Phoenix studio in Kekava, Latvia, as well as Quadraro Basement studio in Rome.
This time Kommander L., the essence of Luctus, who takes care on all guitars and vocals, is joined by Kingas on drums, adding a peculiar nasty style of old school thundering that fits the violent picture in just like a glove. Not the least, few musicians from Ivs Primae Noctis and Wertham, well known projects in industrial/noise scene, collaborated recording the final song of the album.
With recording in question Luctus have managed to lift up the bar high enough – any previous release now sounds just like a mere attempt to be mean and pretentious. With the new album, all the cards are open, all guts are out on display, and all out war command is spontaneously taken.
This album is a conceptual work. The author covers on subjects of how this world would look like just few minutes before its very end; what would be possible and worth to preserve, and what would be left out of the way, since only approaching the final stage the main things are showing through. It is not an album about the apocalypse, it is rather an explosive ball of thoughts on what would survive in the apocalypse’s face. "The man admits his weakness before death. Death equals all."
Traditionally album is filled with war topics aplenty, patriotic motives are certain as well. Patriotism in L. eyes is an individual thing, and not some massive concern. Present and past are compared, pinpointing the lack of the fighting ideas. "We live in stagnation – there are no big wars, yet there is no peace, thus everything moves in one direction”, claims Luctus mastermind.
Finally, the salvation is here: crunchy thrashing black metal punch with certain old school spirit and decent production, able to shake the ground with a cannon-like burst!
Ledo Takas Records will release Luctus' "Jaučiant Pabaigą Arti" in digi-CD format on February 16th 2009.
