Gnostic: 'Engineering the Rule'
"The kid brother" of technical death metallers Atheist, Gnostic's debut album 'Engineering the Rule' will be released on May 25th and later in US on July 14th, by Season Of Mist.
Drummer Steve Flynn comments on the song: "'Sleeping Ground' is one of the most diverse and aggressive songs on 'Engineering the Rule'. It has elements from thrash to death to grind, with blast beats, fast double bass, melodic polyphonic guitar harmonies, bass and drum breakdowns, screaming vocals, Latin percussion and on and on. However, despite the furious sounding nature of the song, the arrangement is quite crisp and clean with repeated thematic elements woven into the fabric of the song - culminating with bookend opening and closing riffs. 'Sleeping Ground' really does a great job of embodying all that is Gnostic in one song."And to those who wonder where Gnostic exactly comes from, Steve carries on: "The name Gnostic, while seemingly related to Atheist due to its religious overtones, really has nothing to do with me being a founding and continued member of Atheist. There was no intended conceptual linkage. In fact, the name was chosen with its Greek roots in mind. Gnosis is one of the Greek words to describe the empirical and spiritual knowledge of an enlightened human being. Gnostic was formed and the name chosen well before the re-activation of seminal technical pioneers Atheist. The formation of Gnostic and re-activation of Atheist were two unrelated and completely independent events. Though, given how it has all worked out, one could perhaps ascribe some level of universal coincidence or even fate that these two entities would not only come out with new CD's, but would share the same label, 3 members, and the stage."
