Warrion: debut album 'Awakening the Hydra' out in September
The release date of the Warrion album 'Awakening the Hydra' is September 27th, 2013. The preorder phase will start on September 13th, 2013 in Pure Steel Records' web shop.
Never heard of Warrion? Doesn't matter, because this LP is in fact the first life sign of this band. Band founder Ron Ravi Warrion (from Singapore) has collected famous people of diverse cult bands to form a band. The vocalist is Mike Viscera, exceptionally gifted singer of Obsession (also ex-Loudness). There's also guitarist Tim Thomas (Abattoir, ex-Agent Steel, ex-Steel Prophet), bassist Keith Knight (Aska) and drummer Rob Brug (Halloween). Furthermore, George Call (Aska, ex-Omen) is guest vocalist on two tracks.
The sound of the debut album 'Awakening the Hydra' is not far from the sound of the musicians main bands, but you can hear some European influences in the songwriting; melody lines and heaviness are well balanced. There are very catchy songs like the opener 'Awakening the Hydra', refined with a good chorus, the straight sounding 'Savage', the quietly starting 'Adversary', the brisk 'Victim of Religion' and the dark sounding 'Serpent's Fire': all are classic power metal with expressive, charismatic vocals and a sophisticated guitar work which never follows the trends. The production is modern but not at all soulless or undifferentiated.
Warrion is a chip from the old block: US metal for connoisseurs and enthusiasts!
