Green Death
Green Death sign with Ellefson Music Productions
Green Death, a thrash/heavy metal band hailing from Des Moines, Iowa, USA, have inked a record deal with Ellefson Music Group.
If you're wondering about how Ellefson Music Group sounds kind of familiar, here's the reason: The label was formed earlier this year by Megadeth bass player and original member David Ellefson.
Mr. Ellefson commented: "They are so in tune with the elements of classic thrash... but pushing the boundaries of metal forward in a really progressive way. On top of that, they are great guys with an amazing work ethic."
The band met EMP people at the backstage of Knotfest in October, a festival held by Slipknot and Stone Sour. Other acts on bill include Judas Priest and Bring Me The Horizon among others. They handed a copy of their sophomore album 'Manufacturing Evil'.
Director of A&R and marketing for EMP, Thom Hazaert commented: "It was just a good fit. We saw from the beginning that it was a good fit."
The band's drummer Ryan Berrier said: "It's not just because we're friends, [Corey Taylor, Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman], had to like our stuff, too... because he's friends with a lot of people. He legitimately vouched for our material."
Guitar player Erich Tran continues: "He saw that we were working hard, building the band, and he was nice enough to ask us to play Knotfest. I think he respected the fact that, ‘Hey, these guys are doing it on their own.’"
A few days later, the deal was done.
Ryan Berrier about the record deal: "Signing a deal with someone who actually stands behind our product is pretty crazy. For that person to be David Ellefson is even more insane."
Vocalist Sol Bales commented: "When I was younger I played Megadeth stuff all the time. I would sit in my room, playing Megadeth riffs. Just getting in touch with David Ellefson, I don't think it's really soaked in."
The band formed in 2012 and released a couple of EPs in 2012 & 2013 before the debut album 'The Deathening' in 2013. Guitarist Mark Reinking and bassist Parker Willis are the two other guys.
The second album 'Manufacturing Evil' will see a worldwide reissue via EMP in Spring 2016.
