Legendary Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister has passed away on December 28th, 2016.
Here's a message from the official Motörhead website:
"There is no easy way to say this… our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it's way down the street, with his family.
We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren't words.
We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please… play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy's music LOUD.
Have a drink or few.
Share stories.
Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.
HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT.
Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister
1945 -2015
Born to lose, lived to win."
Lemmy was born in Staffordshire, England on December 24th 1945. He started to play in bands during the first half of 1960s.
The first bigger band he joined was space-rockers Hawkwind, with who he played between 1972-1975. This was his first experience with bass guitar. He played chords, making him different to many other bassist, who usually played only single notes.
He was fired from Hawkwind in 1975. It didn't take long when a band called Bastard was born. With that name they couldn't get to play on a TV show, so the name was changed to Motörhead (the last Hawkwind song Lemmy wrote).
The rest is history...
