Astralion recording their third album

Finland-based power metal outfit Astralion will begin recording their third full length studio album in September 2018. The recording kick-off will take place in Rock Above Studios in Espoo, Finland.

The goal is to finish recording by the end of this year, followed by mixing and mastering in January 2019. If all goes as planned, the new album is scheduled for release in the spring of 2019.

According to the band's musical mastermind, guitarist Hank J. Newman, the upcoming album includes all the signature Astralion elements: Needle sharp guitar parts, powerful melodies, clear vocals and joyful choruses but the overall sound will be heavier than on previous albums.

Newman now shares the stage with a fellow shredder Manuel Martínez who joined the band last year. The new addition will also affect the sound of the upcoming album. "Having two guitar players on board has brought on healthy competition that will be audible on this record. There will a lot of heavy riffs and guitar harmonies and a bit less keyboard elements," Newmand commented.

Astralion, founded 2011, has released two prior records ('Astralion' 2014, 'The Outlaw' 2016) by the German record label Limb Music. Both records were well received by audience and critics alike.

The material for the new album has been created using the same tried and true formula as the previous records: Newman composes and arranges while the band's leading vocalist Ian E. Highill is in charge of all the lyrics and vocal melodies. Two of the songs are written by the new kid on the block, Mr. Martínez.

Newman admits that the song writing process of was more challenging this time around. Newman, well known for being his own worst critic, says that he didn't want to do the same old record with new song titles being the only significant change.

"I felt that I needed to create something fresh and new, but still sound like the old Astralion. That was the hardest part. On the other hand, Manuel has brought us some new musical perspectives. So all in all, the new record will be more, you know, the old-school German-guitar-style-record', Newman says with a big grin on his face.
