Progeny Of Sun release 'Dark Wanderer' EP and a music video
Finnish extreme metal band Progeny Of Sun released their new EP 'Dark Wanderer' via Inverse Records. To celebrate the release the band also released a music video for 'Eclipse'.
The band commented:
"We think this is a huge improvement from the first EP. The sounds and texts have gotten increasingly dark and gained a pressuring twist. All in all, the material feels more unified this time around even though we have more people behind it. Vocals are bit more straightforward compared to the first EP, still with a lot of variance, but with more taste.
This EP summarizes well the direction we want to take our music, and the next album will be killer.
The video is also an absolute cracker especially considering it's fully our own making. Joni did absolutely amazing job getting it done. We think the video also summarizes our energy and enthusiasm precisely. The video shoot was easy, we just played the song as we would with an audience. We had only one small setback when the person who was supposed to shoot the video got quarantined because of coronavirus. Fortunately, Joni was able to step up and with little additional help from our 'manager' we handled the situation well."
Guitarist/composer Jaakko Hautamäki commented about the song:
"Yeah, the other day Juha (drummer) said, 'It's nice to play in this kind of Gene Hoglan-ish pacing.' Well, I followed with a decent chatter of the double bass, which came out having a disproportionately good ending.
What kind of fucking bouncy metal is this start tho? Said Niko (vocalist).
And so, I had to make new version. Then I made such a gloomy skull-melting start that it became its own song. The third version of the beginning eventually went through.
We of course recorded the studio version with a bit too fast of a tempo as a revenge on Niko, so the vocal arrangement had to be redone as well."
The EP's drums were recorded by Vesa Viitanen from Napalm To Thy Face Prod. The EP was mixed by Jaakko Hautamäki. Mastering was handled by Sebastian Has (Behemoth) from Sound Division Studio, Poland.
Track listing:
1. Eclipse (04:36)
2. Defiled (05:18)
3. Divine Treachery (03:40)
Vocalist Niko Aromaa comented about the lyrics:
"'Eclipse' is a story of human vanity. We as a species are destroying the planet, using other people to our advantage, and forming a path of endless misery. In the end you cannot take anything with you, only burden will follow.
'Divine Treachery' has a more metaphoric approach to life. Power and control are very common in our cultural structures. During the small history of our mankind, there has been countless cases where a person has been deceived by the ones, they trusted the most. Like in this story, someone from inside let the demons through the gates of heaven.
And after the deposition of power has been done you are left abandoned.
'Eclipse' is a story of human vanity. We as a species are destroying the planet, using other people to our advantage, and forming a path of endless misery. In the end you cannot take anything with you, only burden will follow."
