Carnation

Carnation: new album 'Cursed Mortality' out in November

Carnation are giving us a first glimpse at all the ways they've evolved over the past three years by unveiling the title track off their new album. 'Cursed Mortality' still sounds like the Belgian band's bruising brand of death metal. There are plenty of blast beats and the riffs reign down on you like molten rock from a volcano.

The band commented:

"Carnation is back. After months of relentless dedication and creativity, we invite you to feast your eyes on the album cover and details of our upcoming third album, 'Cursed Mortality'.

Faithful Carnation fans will undoubtedly find what they have come to love and expect of our signature sound on 'Cursed Mortality'. However, they can also expect the unexpected, as we venture further into previously unknown territories for the band.
The artwork for 'Cursed Mortality' has been masterfully crafted by the late Mariusz Lewandowski (†), renowned for his remarkable talent in creating majestic dark surrealist masterpieces. Lewandowski's haunting visuals perfectly capture the essence of the album.
Furthermore, we have collaborated with the revered Lord of the Logos, Christophe Szpajdel, to create a brand new logo and symbol that perfectly encapsulates the essence of 'Cursed Mortality'.

Known for his iconic designs and ability to bring forth the spirit of the music through typography, Szpajdel's contribution further solidifies the album's visual identity.

The second decade of Carnation has begun. Prepare for an intense journey concerning the exploration of our fleeting mortality."

Track listing:
1. Herald of Demise (feat. Andy LaRocque)
2. Maruta
3. Metropolis
4. Replicant
5. Dutroux
6. Submerged in Deafening Silence
7. Cycle of Suffering
8. Cursed Mortality

While Duson's death growl has only grown more sinister, 'Cursed Mortality' is the first Carnation song to feature clean vocals. And at 7:40, it's also one of their longest, a reflection on growing old that's shadowed by gloomy synths, melancholic leads and life-long regrets.

"This song captures the essence of our musical evolution," says Duson. "It's an epic journey that explores a wide range of musical landscapes, all while looking back at life's pivotal moments. Am I happy and satisfied with how I've lived my life? Where did it go wrong or right?"

The album will out on November 3rd, 2023, via Season Of Mist.
