Darkness: new album 'Blood on Canvas' coming in April

'Blood on Canvas' is the angriest album to date by the Essen thrashers Darkness. The songs are more aggressive and harder than anything that can be found in the Darkness discography so far. Although it is not a concept album, 'Blood on Canvas' is not a mere collection of nine songs created in one era, but a multifaceted sonic painting painted with the colors of anger.

Musically, Darkness deliver the uncompromising and fast thrash metal that they have been known for since their debut album 'Death Squad' (1987). However, the compositions on this album are more complex and detailed than usual, without losing aggression, hardness and authenticity. The texts are no longer just a description of the madness that determines the course of this world, but rather get straight to the point and without compromise.

The nine songs were produced at Rambado Recording Studios in collaboration with Cornelius "Corny" Rambadt, who has also worked with Sodom, Disbelief and Bonded, among others. The predecessors 'First Class Violence' and 'Over and Out' were already produced in collaboration with Corny. For 'Blood on Canvas', Darkness and producer Corny made it their mission to create an aggressive and powerful, but also honest sound. The cover artwork is again by Timon Kokott, with whom Darkness worked together for the third time.

Although recording for the album had already begun in mid-October 2023, Darkness and guitarist Meik separated from each other during the ongoing production, so that 'Blood on Canvas' was only recorded as a four-piece.

'Blood on Canvas' will be out via Massacre Records on April 26th, 2024.
