Eternal Tears Of Sorrow

Eternal Tears Of Sorrow call it a day

Finnish melodic death metal band Eternal Tears Of Sorrow have announced their split:

"Hey, it's @goashem_music (Jarmo Puolakanaho) and @alttivetelainen (Altti Veteläinen) here. We've got some good news and some bad news. Let's start with the bad.

The two of us began this EToS journey back in early 1992 when we formed Andromeda. After a few twists, it became Eternal Tears of Sorrow — a band that lasted for about 30 years.

Now, it's our turn to turn off the lights.

EToS has completed its journey. This is the end. We've seen, experienced, and done everything possible for this band, for our fans. This is a mutual decision, with every member fully behind it, and there's no hard feelings this time.

We want to thank everyone for these incredible years—every member who has ever been part of the band, everyone who has worked with us behind the scenes, and all of you who have supported us in any way, especially you, our fans. We are eternally grateful.

There are two memories we both hold especially dear. One was our first tour — the 2000 European tour with Nightwish and Sinergy. The other was our last tour — the 2016 Japanese headlining tour. Both were dreams come true in different ways.

Life goes on, and so does the music. We both continue making music, separately. Altti's gothic metal band (For My Pain...) has a second album coming later this year, and there's an album from my brand-new melodic death metal band (Jarmo's) scheduled for release next year. More details will be shared when the time is right.

Now, for the good news...

Next year, in our second hometown of Oulu, there will be an exhibition featuring many metal bands from the region—a proper museum exhibition that will run for two years. EToS will be part of it, with a dedicated section.

Let's call it closure. The epilogue. We can't think of a better way to lay this dear band to rest. It's an honour.

You're all welcome to visit the exhibition in Oulu in autumn 2026. We'll be there when it opens, so please join us. More details coming soon.

So, one last time — thank you all!"
