Sarpanitum announce new bassist
Wasting no time following Andy Techakosit (bass/vocals) recent announcement that he would be leaving English brutal death metal band Sarpanitum to pursue his academic career, the band are pleased to welcome Vic Lochab to their ranks. Vic's musical ability and enthusiasm made the decision to take him on as a session bassist a no-brainer and the foursome are looking forward to hitting the stage again with a new sense of vigour. Lead vocal responsibilities will now be handled by guitarist Mark Broster, who is not only excited by this new challenge but eager to put his pipes to good use in the name of Sarpanitum!
Some might think that the departure of a band's original member would have a detrimental effect. Not so for Sarpanitum. Restructuring their set-up has breathed a new life into the band whose previous live shows and debut album, 'Despoilment of Origin', saw them hailed as the UK's brightest hope in underground death metal circles by numerous publications, webzines and audiences alike. For Sarpanitum it marks a turning point; symbolising the start of a new chapter in the band's history. Material for their second album is already underway and promises to raise the bar for UK death metal even further still...
After a brief live hiatus, Sarpanitum are set to re-emerge at the start 2008 with a number of shows already confirmed for January - details of which can be found below and on their website, www.sarpanitum.com and www.myspace.com/sarpanitum.
Here is a statement from Andy T.:
"First of all, I would like to say that the 4 years since forming Sarpanitum have been some of the best of my life; seeing the band grow from ground floor up has been a privilege and I would like to thank Tom, Sean and Mark for being some of the best band mates and friends one could ask for, as well as Leon, Lisa, Gerald, Alex and all at Galactic Records who have been great and have worked remarkably hard to get 'Despoilment of Origin' out to the world.
As some of you may know I live in Bristol and commute frequently to Birmingham to rehearse with the band. This has never been an issue for me as Sarpanitum has been such huge part of my life that I couldn't imagine a motorway stopping me playing the music I love. However, it has arrived at the time where I have to make some major commitment choices and feel I am no longer able to continue to give 100% to the band. And thereby having to bow out in order to pursue and complete my academic career.
In addition, the inspiration, motivation and initiative that was once inside me as a Sarpanitum member has gradually diminished with the lack of progress to the point where I feel I needed to make a decision as opposed to carrying on and subsequently grinding the band down to a complete halt.
I sincerely wish the band all the best in their future endeavours and thank everyone, including my family, who have supported me through my time with the band.
Signing off,
Andy Techakosit"
