Mors Subita

History

PRE-MORS SUBITA

In 1999 Mika Lammassaari, his cousin Aki Lammassaari, Juha Haapala and some of their friends started to play covers from Pantera, White Zombie, Amorphis, Sentenced, etc...

During 1999/2000 Mika, Aki and Haapala made some songs of their own under the name of Zilstrone. These songs were put together and a demo CD was recorded with help of Kari Räty who did the recording, mixing and mastering. He also played the bass lines for the demo.

Jarno "Jarski" Rankinen joined the band in summer 2000. Jarski, Mika, Haapala and Jukka-Pekka Ellilä (guitarist) started a project with a goal to play more agressive metal in the form of covers first. At this time Aki decided to leave the band 'cause his goals were in different kind of music.

MORS SUBITA

This project band made four songs of their own and in the summer 2002 Antti "Hape" Haapsamo joined them. Soon after that Ellilä didn't have enough time for the band, so Jarkko Kaleva replaced him. Mors Subita was chosen to be the name of this group. New songs were made in pretty fast phase and during spring 2003 Mors Subita recorded their first demo which was called 'Synopsis'.

During the year 2004 Mors Subita made few gigs and at 2005 Mika, Jarski and Kaleva started their militaryservice. At the end of the 2005 Jarski decided to leave the band. Rather soon after that Mika "June" Junttila did step in the line as a new bass player.

2006 military service was done for the guys and Mors Subita made their 2nd demo-MCD 'Epoch'.

During years 2006-2008 Mors Subita has been playing a lot of gigs and writing new material. They released 'Paranea' MCD in 2007. During the late 2008 our rhythm guitarist Jarkko Kaleva had to leave the band to concentrate on his ongoing studies.

In 2009 the band released their next EP, called 'Sound of Spite'. Mors Subita found a replacement for guitarist Jarkko Kaleva in Indrek "Insu" Virronen.

However, Virronen left the band in 2011 aqnd was replaced by Tero Piltonen. The release of their first full-length album 'Human Waste Compression' in September 2011 saw the band explode within the melo-death scene. Later in 2011 the band lost their drummer Haapala.

In 2012, Ville Miinala joined Mors Subita as the drummer. The band took long time working on their sophomore album. The band lost the guitarist Piltonen and the vocalist Haapsamo in 2013. Vocalist Eemeli Bodde was recruited in 2014.

The highly-anticipated second album 'Degeneration' saw the band reaching new heights, with both albums hitting the official charts in Finland and receiving worldwide praise throughout the metal community. Using this arsenal of melodic chaos, the band has laid waste to some of the biggest stages across Finland and forged a reputation for their heavy hitting and high energy stage show, showcasing their unparalleled skill and proving they are a force to be reckoned with.

In 2018, Mors Subita return with their third offering of unrelenting melodic masterpieces, loaded with the signature riffage, blistering drumming and crushing bass lines that make up their identity. This third full-length album 'Into the Pitch Black' proves that this band has only just begun to push the boundaries of their musicianship and songwriting, and will see them continue to rise as one of the top emerging acts amongst the Finnish melo-death elite.
