Ikuinen Kaamos

History

Ikuinen Kaamos is a metal band from Finland. The band was formed in 1997. As a result, Ikuinen Kaamos released two demos in the following year ('Pimeys Pohjolan Yllä' and 'Tulivarjot'). The demos were mainly directed to the underground black metal scene. After the second release the band drifted into a dead-end and they decided to split-up.

In 2003, one of the founding members of the band, Jarno Ruuskanen (guitars and bass), wanted to bring Ikuinen Kaamos back to life. The band's style began to take shape. They started to soak up influences from death, doom and progressive metal. New members were introduced and the band released two demos in 2003 ('So Rose the Dreadful Ghost') and 2004 ('The Lands of the Plague'). The releases received excellent feedback from the media and fans. Ikuinen Kaamos was ready for the next step.

In 2005, Ikuinen Kaamos signed a record deal with a dutch label Descent Productions. The band entered EastVoice-studio in august of 2005 to record their debut album 'The Forlorn'. It is an ambitious release that captures the passion and creativity of Ikuinen Kaamos. The lyrical concept is based upon a story of an old man who murdered his wife and child decades ago, and now he struggles with faith and guilt. 'The Forlorn' is a unique album that will captivate the listener from the beginning to the end. The rest of the band consists of Juhani Mikkonen (guitars), Henri Villberg (vocals) and drummer Arttu Romo.

In 2007, Ikuinen Kaamos recorded their sophomore album which was due to be released in January 2008. After repeated delays in releasing the album, their old label informs the band of their eventual inability to release it due to financial issues. Fed up and tired of letting their impatient fans wait for new musical outputs, the band decides to release three songs from the album as a free downloadable EP entitled 'Closure' (2008). It incorporates more progressive elements while maintaining the utterly melancholic atmosphere for which Ikuinen Kaamos are known for. The EP introduces clean vocals which support a wider range of extreme vocals in their lament. Again the songs take their time to set up the aimed mood and project the definition of Ikuinen Kaamos on the listeners minds eye: An eternal polar night...

Early 2009, amazed by their incredible artistic talent to evoke dismal melancholy and heartfelt emotions with the power of a dark and progressive metal, Maddening Media invites the band to henceforth create their art under the labels banner. Thus Ikuinen Kaamos will start the first recording sessions for their forthcoming album in May. The release of 'Fall of Icons' is scheduled for autumn 2009.
