Paineater

History

After numerous attempts at forming a good death metal band; Mark Odechuck (vocals) and Bob White (bass & drum machine) decided to do a band themselves. They wanted to do a band without a guitarist or a live drummer. Also they wanted to base their music around heaviness more than speed. Paineater were setting out to be the heaviest band in the world!

In October of 1989, Bob along with a friend took first place in a costume contest. With the money Bob won, he purchased an Alesis HR:16B drum machine. This is where Paineater started to come together. In November 1989 their first two song demo was recorded. The cassette contained the songs; 'War of the Gargantuas' and 'Whorehouse of the Freaks' at the time of the recording they had never practiced together. The tape was tight musically, but simple. They had sent this demo to about fifty fanzines. Most of the reviews were great with the exception of a few. While Paineater were promoting themselves, they were also rehearsing and writing new songs. Paineater wrote five new songs and decided to record them in the studio.

By June 1990, Paineater had a new cassette titled 'Hypersexual Psychoviolence' The songs had a lot more changes and much better production. This demo tape received much better reviews. Most of which said Paineater was one of the most original bands out. Most also said they were the heaviest band in the world. One went so far as to say they made most heavy bands sound like girl scouts! At this same time Paineater began played shows to a great response. Paineater never played to same venue twice do to the amount of destruction caused at each show. They've played with such bands as Nocturnus, Obituary, Assuck, Killing Addiction, Anarchus and various other bands.

Paineater released their only full length album, 'Creator Perserver Destroyer', in 2009 by themselves.

Where did the name Paineater come from? Mark explains: "...It's a concept about man... Different phases that he goes through kind of a abstract song you can interpret different ways... Through three stages..."
