Antarktis Utopia
History
Antarktis Utopia is a Finnish band that plays metal. Our music is mostly derived from the death metal mold nowadays but other influences, like the occasional Gothenburg and black metal ones, are apparent as well.
Antarktis Utopia was first founded in 1997 by Anssi and his friends. The band's early years were full of line-up changes. One could say that we were learning the ropes and finding our way. Gradually shifting from progressive black metal toward death metal, we finally started to see the way when Miikka joined our ranks in 2003 as the battery operator. At this point we were a squad of three: Anssi, Henkka and Miikka.
We had released a total of three demos before ('Antarktis Utopia' [2000], 'Promo 2002' and 'Views from Above' [2003]), and in 2005 it was once again time to unleash upon the world the fury that is Antarktis Utopia. This fury manifested itself in the form of 'Self-Destruction', which was our fourth demo. It was also around this time that Jyrki infiltrated the squad, bringing along his sub-sonic rumblings.
In summer/fall 2006 we recorded some of the songs we had composed up to this point. This recording would later become our first full-length album, the somewhat cryptically titled '030550'. The album was released on January 5th, 2007 and has enjoyed a warm welcome among our fans.
Training ourselves as one solid squad and honing our style, the four of us had put together enough material for another full-length album by late 2007. This is when we began recording 'Traitors', and in the beginning of 2008 we were done. The album was released in 2009 by us.
Antarktis Utopia died in Autumn of 2009.
