Degenerate
History
The foundation for the band Degenerate was laid in Jakobstad/Pietarsaari Finland around 1998 when two guitarists, Mikael Ekstedt and Andreas Backa started playing together with a local drummer. Some good material was written during a two-year period but eventually the band was put on hold for a few years because there wasn't any place to rehearse at. Nothing worth mentioning was accomplished back then.
From that point the members kept playing their instruments on their own for a while.
The ambition to write aggressive yet melodic music was still there and in september 2002 the band found a new rehearsal place and were once again actively making music. Jakob Ericsson officially joined the band handling vocal duties. Everything went well and some good material was written and rehearsed. During the summer of 2003, due to various reasons, there was an immediate need for another drummer to step into the band. Two drummers were auditioned and Markus Rosenberg was recruited for the position. Shortly thereafter, in November of 2003, a demo/promo containing 4 songs ('Blinded', 'Displacement', 'This Bleeding', 'Victim') was recorded at Lappfjärd Folkhögskola. Prior to the recording, Mathias Lillmåns joined the band to handle backing vocals and bass guitar.
At approximately the same time the band name Degenerate was taken and 'Demo/Promo '03' released.
