The Bretwaldas Of Heathen Doom
History
Bretwaldas, from just outside Birmingham in England, formed in 2001 (originally under the name Icelord) as a slow pagan doom act with influences from the darkest recesses of English 80s metal and hardcore punk. The music soon sped up in accordance with the stark subject matter of lyricist / bass player Wartooth. Bretwaldas (often abbreviated to) play English heathen doom.
The first demo 'The Sleping Trees Have Eyes - Rehearsal Room Demos 2002' is a 100% analogue rehearsal room recordings (drunkenly played and disgustingly produced). It was self-rehearsal, but later reissued by King Penda Productions.
The first full length album 'Droner' came out in 2003, and was reissued in 2006 by King Penda Productions.
2006 was the year when the band's second album 'Battle Staffs in the Mushroom Woods' was released by King Penda Productions in 200 individually numbered copies, with first 50 includig additional lyrics booklet and a badge.
The third full length album, 'Seven Bloodied Ramparts' was released in May 2010 by King Penda Productions.
Bretwaldas have been featured and interviewed in a range of high street metal magazines, as well as underground fanzines, despite no live appearances and an almost zero promotion policy.
