Amagortis
History
In summer 2001 AMAGORTIS was founded by Daniel Baeriswyl (guitar), Stefan Jeckelmann (drums) and David Luterbacher (guitar). But this band was not our first project. At the very first beginning there was a melodic death metal band called MY OWN ENEMY (same members as above and on the bass guitar Simon Fasel). Gaining more and more experience, our music style became harder, bloodier and faster - AMAGORTIS was born!
At this point, one thing was clear to us: we would play death metal. Simon could not agree with the new style and left the band. So, what should a band without a bass guitar player and a shouter do? Damned right! Looking for someone! And we found someone! A nobody called Andreas Hirschi should lend his deep, dark voice to us.
Hyper motivated we began to write some songs. But something was still missing: a bass guitar player! And luck was with us in December 2001, when we first met Nathalie Lambert. She should take the missing part and so she became part of AMAGORTIS too. After a few hard working months we released in August 2002 our 'first demo CD' including three songs: 'Brutal Revenge', 'Slaughtered Corpse' and 'Bounded by Hate'.
In December 2002 our frontman Andreas had to leave our band. It was not an easy decision but he could not perform what we were expecting. So we went on playing and Daniel took the vocal parts. But somehow we couldn't improve very well and we noticed that David wasn't very motivated any more. So he finally told us in March 2003 that he also would leave the band. This has been a great loss for AMAGORTIS and we began an infinite quest for a suitable shouter and a replacement for David. Actually, four month after David left, which means in July 2003, we found our new shouter Stefan Grimm through an interested guitar player. He perfectly fit into the band from the beginning and will now do the vokills with Daniel. Now we knew that we had found the right people to perform what AMAGORTIS should be.
Motivated like never before we began to practice for our first gig ever in January 2004. All went well and we recieved a lot of great reactions. Three weeks later we began recording for our first album 'Abominable' including 9 tracks of groovy and technical death metal! 'Abominable' was released mid May 2004 by the band.
