History
Dira Mortis was formed in 1998 by Leszek Makowiecki (guitar, bass, vocals) and Krzysztof Karpiński (drums). The debut work of this line-up was 'Revulsion' demo which consisted of 5 tracks - as the band itself describes - in the vein of brutal death metal. The demo was self-released under the banner of Sadistic Records. The demo got very good reviews in press as well as on the internet, both in Poland and abroad. It was often compared to Asphyx and Grave.
In January 2002 the band entered Manek Studio again to record new, 20 minute long demo entitled 'Murder Epidemic', which consisted of 9 tracks in the same vein, with some grind influences, which resulted in even more brutality. After a few gigs promoting the aforementioned material, the drummer left the band and the line-up was reinforced by Tomasz Bogdan (bass) and Wojciech Bochnia (drums). In the beginning of 2003 'Murder Epidemic' was officially released on tape by Warsaw-based label Apocalypse Production. It was a split release with a band from Dębica called Valinor.
In the meantime the band was working on new material for next EP. Band recorded new songs with new drummer Artur Parylak, yet again in Manek Studio. The outcome was 'Architecture of Mind' EP - 4 tracks of death metal with a stifling climate of the early 90s, self-realeased again, this time under the banner of Horror Records. The band played a couple of gigs along with bands such as Patologicum, Parricide and Deformed. The reviews were once again very positive, both in terms of music and layout of the publication. Few months later the band faced some issues with the drummer. In 2004 the band performed their last gig as a supporting act on the Ten Days of GrindCore Massacre Tour of Antigama, which took place in Tarnów.
In 2009 the band reformed in a completely new line-up and recorded new MCD 'The Cult of the Dead', released later via Defense Productions. Stuff was prepared by Leszek/Vaginathor/Wizun/MÅ›cisÅ‚aw and was consisted of 3 new tracks and cover of Autopsy's 'Ridden with Disease'. Cemetery artwork was made by infamous Åukasz Jaszak. This EP opened new chapter for Dira Mortis - the band played old school, rotten and minimalistic death metal in veins of Autopsy, Incantation and Cianide.
In 2011 the same line-up recorded at Chinook Studio songs for new album 'Euphoric Convulsions' which was released in October 2012 via Let It Bleed Records.
