Four fellows collectively known as Fuckhammer hail from both, Southern and Northern, Ireland. As their name should suggest, they are here to maim. But how do they aim, do they hit it home or not?
Even though this EP was released by GrindScene Records of Northern Ireland, Fuckhammer do not play grindcore. Their sludgy, heavy style, and simplistic compositions may cause deuced obtusion, or make a member of your body, or many, move. See, I've gone through both states when listening to this. Anyways, the guitar is ripping and rusty sounding, and there's a lot of string-stretching. In the riffs, there are hints of death metal, rock and crust to be heard, too. One thing is assured: There are no solos to be heard! It's about riffs. Penetrating bass and driving drum beats from the rhythm section. The vocals are in throat-lacerating black metal-ish style, but fit in surprisingly well. However, more variety wouldn't go amiss.
I like the live sound of the recording, which does not lack of heaviness. I wouldn't call it ass-rape heavy, but it still kicks ass, at least. All the elements, meaning the instruments and the vocals, are also nicely audible in the mix. The band sound outright tight during both slow and faster songs, by the way.
If you want your music ugly, primitive and aggressive, you could do much, much worse than checking out Fuckhammer. This offers nothing new, but is a working mixture of varying styles. Get hammer-fucked, or hammered and fucked, or whatever!
