Damokis, who hail from Malaysia, attack with old school sounding grindcore. I was expecting to hear some gore or porngrind, but well, I got something different. This, the band's debut album starts with a sample from "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" video game (no shitting!!!), and the title of the song is 'Return of the Goldilocks' (no fucking shitting!!!), I'm a tad baffled about it. But hey, that's a snug way to be in a Friday eve. A tad baffled, mmmmmmmm...

One thing that Damokis do not have are down-tuned guitars. Instead, they are buzzing and totally devoid of lower end sounds. The guitars sound like sharp insect swarm sound. Multiple effects are utilized, for better or worse. Still, the playing is raw. As this is grindcore, there are punk and metal elements in riffing. It can be fast or then slower stuff. The slower is often more groovy compared to speedier shit. What a surprise. Oh, we got at least one porngrind song, by the way, in form of 'Lantai Enam', and it is one to make love to, that groovy and sexy it is. Back to the riffs now: Some are really tasty, some are not. Sometimes the music gets wacky, too bloody wacky. Like a children's song turned into grindcore. Well, who takes this life seriously anyway??? The rhythm section offers loads of variety. Anything from sexy groovy beats to fast (not that fast) tempos. Without forgetting the D-beat...

You can read thanx lists when listening to the album, as you wouldn't understand any of the lyrics excreted. No lyrics are printed, as you might have worked out. Many songs include effected vocals tracks, as well as overlapping ones. Guttural stuff, as expected, with some screams. This is filled with loads of samples. From games, movies (also from trailers), TV, ad probably from more sources. Sometimes samples steal half of a song's duration, which is a lot when looking at Damokis' song durations.

The sound is raw, too, very demo-level indeed. But at least it is clear enough for the instruments and the vocals to gain their places in the whole. If you are looking for some wacky and not crap grinding, this could be right up your ass. I mean right down your alley. I like this a bit, at least every now and then, and am an asshole by giving this a rather crappy...
