Opening with infernal organs paving the way for Satan himself, Polish newcomer Incertus definitely make themselves noticeable. Their deformed black/death metal is on the brink of being sloppy, but it is also weirdly catchy. It is fucked up, in short!

At first, 'Ultima Necat' sounds like an alloy born in Hell: US death metal legends Immolation's slithering style with other US act, Sathanas', simplistic thrashy black metal. With that fucking church organ wailing in the background; it sounds like 2 different songs are playing at the same time. Pandemonium! Then, the band introduce some warped lead guitar work, and I think it is safe to declare Incertus at least as a very characteristic sounding band.

What follows is some plain, yet not boring, performing (remember Hellhammer?!). The guitar is often strumming, the bass sounds like it's playing one note, and the drum beat is basic. But then again, they can be a bit more than elementary, too. And the band have the riffs. The have the drive. And they have them church organs... Loads of parts with different tempos follow each other, so it is kind of jumpy at times. But then again, there's nice fluidness to some parts. The lead guitar work is something different, as I really have not heard similar: It's like some spacey prog rock thrown in with black/death metal, and there are some oddball keyboard melodies, or a solo. Then, 'I, the Fool' is a real anthem with some truly catchy lead guitar and riffing, plus ugly tremolo picking part. The vocals are all guttural growling which also sounds unhealthy, ravaged by pestilence. 'The Return of the Darkness and Evil' is a Bathory cover, with way lesser cavernous vibe.

With 'Predestination to Damnation', Incertus offer a bizarre, organic (and somewhat nebulous) and eerie concoction of black/death metal and 1970's prog rock antics. Its quirkiness perplexes me, and even sounds distinct these days. Maybe those, who aren't running for shelter when Sigh or The Meads of Asphodel are playing, should take heed.
