Vermilia is a black metal artist from Finland and she has released one album, an EP and loads of single cuts in five years' time. Her unique looks and voices are impossible to pass by when once perceived. She definitely has class.
Her third album 'Ruska' is on its way for September release, but first it is time for a new single, 'Hautavajo'. The new song is ominous, evil and melancholic, in Scandinavian style. Definitely suitable for Autumn times, and maybe not the best time now during this hot summer. The song starts in a sinister way. It's fast and powerful. It is also rather theatrical, especially at the end. Tremolo riffing is trollish and the first vocals sound like they're coming from a grave. The vocals change between are wraith-like low growl and elf-like soft, almost fragile, voice. Melancholic, sharp tremolo picking, and epic stringed instrument sounds are catchy for sure. The booming drums are hefty, the bass guitar is easily audible in the mix. Everything echoes a bit, significantly lifting the atmosphere up.
The new song is an absolute grower. I hope the same from the forthcoming album. It stays in motion for its duration, not stalling at any point and has good fluctuating and progression. It definitely has roots in the 2nd wave Scandinavian black metal, but it sounds now. If you're wondering, the title means something like "grave depression". Totally suitable for the vibe!
