Dies Ater have gone more mainstream. 'Out of the Dark (into the Light)' is the cover of late Falco song. I find the song quite boring. On this song, Dies Ater sound poppy goth rock. And it's sung in German (well, mostly), so I can't but think of certain Rammstein band... Have you heard about 'em? Quite a difference with the band's former material.

'Death to Last' is the band's first own song. And they've dragged these goth influences into it, too, between somewhat heavier parts. Of course the song is catchy as any fucking sexual disease, and not as bad as I first thought because of the goth influences, if not very happening. It recycles three (not many anyway) parts except during calmer middle part. English pronunciation is very German. 'Ewiges Eis' is a song of sad vibes in vein of Menhir and such bands, with spoken words in German. The song relies heavily on synthesizers, but they are well done, so this is the best song. 'Dethrone the Weak Mortality (2004)' is a re-recording from the last full length 'Chanting Evil' (2003) and heaviest song here. The sound is drier and punchier, but song works better.

The Andy Classen production is weirdly dry-sounding, but still containing enough elements. The songs are too varying. The next album will show if Dies Ater will continue with more gothic music or take a step or two back to harsher stuff. On this one they sound like they've lost direction.
