Formed back in 1989, Antropomorfia have just released their debut full length album in 2003. With one demo of the same name from 1994, it took a long for this to be created. Fernando Payer is the man behind this brutality.
Antropomorfia's death metal is old school. Influences listed are Cannibal Corpse, Monstrosity, Deicide, Morbid Angel and Malevolent Creation, but this still differs enough from those American bands. Antoropomorfia's death is fast and loud, filled with twisted riffing and sometimes with infectious groove. Definitely, but something is missing. That something is originality, something truly Antropomorfia, although there's a few surprises, such as more "jazzy" (maybe a totally wrong word, but...) stuff. There's intro (just some noise) and a couple of horror movie soundtrackish interludes. The majority of the songs are catchy for any death head, and never boring. And yes, comes with Terrorizer cover song, which is good (minus the drum machine).
The vocals are in Spanish, which is great for a chance, since I haven't heard too much of this stuff as yet. But about lyrics, can't comment (not included with this promo)! Vocals are gut-low growling, but still kind of raspy. Raspy guts?! Well, quite inhuman. The sound is good and heavy, very much like it should by nowadays standards. Guitars are very low and heavy, too, sometimes reminding of chainsaw and bass is distorted. One thing truly annoys me: drum machine is utilized! Shit, it is programmed well enough, but it still sounds a bloody machine and beats coming with same amount of volume just kills something vital.
Enjoyable death metal album for those who dig the stuff of yore. While the musical brutality is enjoyable and above average in all this vastness of death metal, the execution isn't. That drum machine... Hopefully Mr. Payer finds a flesh 'n' bone drummer for next recording, if there will be such a thing.
