If you thought Ossuary Insane (OI from now on) did call it a day after their great debut album 'Demonize the Flesh' (a 1998 release with two demos compiled as an album), fear not! This North American death metal machine is back with a new demo, titled 'The Soundtrack to Human Extinction'.
OI went through line-up changes prior to this release and while recording this, the band was five-piece. When compared to the debut album, this time the band sounds much tighter. 'Demonize the Flesh' was evil-sounding music, but 'The Soundtrack...' is more lethal attack. Presence of trademark evilness in guitar work is still notable, though. Rhythm guitar and bass create a dense wall of sound, making this a heavy affair. Songs are mainly fast, but slower parts add loads of dynamics into compositions. While the music sounds Norh American style death metal, those slower parts bring in some Swedish death metal leanings. Drummer likes to be everywhere, so expect some tight kit bashing and many varying beats, with only one bad point; too tight snare drum sound. Vocals are very good. Grunting is powerful, rhythmic and comprehensible and vocal track overlapping adds demonic feel. While this is groovy, this ain't "death rock", but pure brutal death metal.
'The Soundtrack...' might not sound quite as distinctive as the debut album, but the music is well crafted and should appeal to brutal death metal maniacs. OI have a new line-up again, so I'm anxiously waiting how their next release will sound. Hopefully they are able to maintain their unique touches on their future releases.
