Tacere, what is it about? Well, it's very hard to put it in short, since they offer extremely diverse music. I wouldn't want to put it in any specific genre, but one could say they provide us with progressive metal. F. ex. song structures are very complicated, so it takes many spins in your CD-player to really get the music.
What I received was a carton sleeve -package of 'Eras – Reveries', hence it doesn't offer very much information or extras. But apparently the seventh track: 'Foes of the Sun' is a bonus track available only in this package format. What is there to learn about this band by mere package is their names, looks and the essential credits. Cover art itself is rather simple, yet effective; the logo and a sink-drain covered in blood.
Now, the music! The record kicks off with a very Sentenced-like heavy metal piece. Well, actually only a couple of verses and the chorus remind Sentenced. Otherwise it offers some rather "strange" parts, which I think, are the very soul of Tacere. So it's very basic heavy metal combined with extraordinary parts to spice up the entity. A perfect opener! The second track begins with a calm part featuring beautiful female vocals. After that you get very crunchy riffing with aggression, calm beautiful melodies, heavy riffing, beautiful melodies, etc. Chorus on the other hand is a mixture of these elements. Nice, but not mind-blowing. Track three, very powerful start in it. Now this is what I'd call metal! Warning though: causes aching necks! Now, I could explain the contents of all the remaining tracks, too, but I'd rather advice you to find it out yourself. But I assure you that this record has no fillers in it! Every track is, of course, worth listening, but also worth considering. These tunes have much more depth in 'em than the Pacific Ocean. (Yeah, I know that's a crappy metaphor, but you got the point, right?).
The guys (and the gal) of Tacere are still young, so they will develop constantly, which, for me, is hard to understand, since this record already offers very mature material. If they do not break through with this record, it certainly isn't a question of technical talent. Karri Knuuttila, the mastermind, singer and guitarist uses many techniques in his singing, so the vocals really can't get boring, or such. And while female vocals are handled by such a talent as Helena, things get even better! She sings very powerfully, yet with emotion. Also the rest of the players would probably be warmly welcomed to almost any band.
I'm quite sure that the next release Tacere puts out, is released through a prestigious label!
