Godfall were one of those Finnish bands who mixed some metal and groovy rock. Sometimes close to Turku's loonies Pakeni, sometimes close to another lunatic bunch from Turku, Xysma, but still far enough from both. After all they came from Jyväskylä.
Godfall was kind of too evil name for this kind of band and music. 'Robotica' is an introduction, beginning with electronic bleebs. Soon a rough 'n' heavy guitar comes in and so do kicking drums and funky bass. 'Re-Human' sounds close to Paraxism's '.xism Cursion' (1996), but more rocking. Metal can be heard in nice riffs and guitar harmonies, especially on 'Beesting Voyage', which is easily the standout song of this mini-CD. Other nice touch is Maiden-esque melody on 'Super-Sonic'. Great! Basically driving groove (not Kraftwerk's robo-"groove", ha!) is on constant use. While song writing is not classy all the way through, the band throw a nice hook every now and then. The band plays tight together and guys are good players in general and they throw a cool trick or two during this shortish EP. The sound is heavy, quite raw yet every instrument is audible. Pretty full, to be more precise.
Snarly growl doesn't fit with the music a bit, I think. They sound simply shit, while with death metal they probably would sound okay. Clean yet roughish vocals are much better while they are not very well sung either. They just sound more natural with the music. No lyrics are printed and otherwise the covers are a bit boring, so just listen to music.
A nice little Mini-CD. Catchy 'n' groovy as fuck, but the growled vocals ruin a lot. If mid-period Xysma, Pakeni, Paraxism, Aeon (Finnish), Convulse, mid-preriod Discgace and such rock your world, hunt this fucker down.
