Pete Flesh aka Peter Karlsson (Deceiver, Thrown, ex-Maze Of Torment) created a solo project the day Chuck Schuldiner passed away. However, Flesh isn't a Death tribute band or any kind of total imitation of the Floridan legends.

Death influence is there, that's for sure. Morbid, 1980s style riffage and drum beats recall those days of insanity. Pete Flesh is of course also influenced by his homeland's massive old school death metal scene. This is his way to express his darker and morbid side, which at times leads to almost black metal style material. But contrary to all things evil, there's some groove too. By any means, Flesh can't be called as unique. This is the second biggest problem about the band (the worst aspect is the vocals), if you consider it that way. But if old school death metal is your stuff, then you will surely not vomit on 'Temple of Whores'. I can't think anyone could raise this amongst legends, but it's all listenable enough.

The platter sounds good. The way it submits energy is great. Low guitar tone is ancient!!! The vocals are really one dimensional deep growl. I really wish for more varying vocals outlet. Lyrical themes I can only quess (even though the vocals are mostly coherent), as the promo copy came without a lyrics sheet. The song titles must offer some clues, heh. I'm happy Pete wanted a flesh and blood drummer for this, instead taking an easy way of utilizing a drum machine.

There's loads of bands this reminds me of, but I'm not gonna mention any one of them anymore. Let's end this review with these words: Flesh's second album is dark old school (read: 1980s style) death metal, influenced my North American and Swedish mayhem and if you that is your choice of aural destruction, then check out Flesh.
