This Tangled Web (TTW from now on) began to spread darkness in 1998. Different releases (their own words) have followed since and this is the band's 4th one. TTW are a two man band (Nick and Garran). Drums are programmed, but generally this sounds quite thick, especially the guitars and bass.
TTW play dark metal. Together with doom, black and death metal influences there's gothic feel. It is not "white face, black lips" way, but more like old gothic style of architecture. Fragile parts are there, but not for very long time anyways. This is based on heavy riffing (no solos here) and therefore kicks asses of wimpy goth stuff. 'Recycle' is a song playing with horror atmosphere, being a harsher song with black metal influences. Reminding me of a mixture of Nicodemus and 'The Horror Grandeur' (2000) era Morgul, the song is quite catchy, but not my stuff. 'No Funeral' is a lot more catchier, though. This song is a monument. Wonderfully doomy riff and nice lead guitars are nicely weaved into a layered wall of sound. This is a kind of a song that really catches attention and I can't think of any band straight away, so this is the highlight for me.
Two quite different songs aren't a lot and really doesn't give any picture how the band sounds like. One for TTW completists, since these two songs are included on latest mini-CD 'I Stab at Thee' (2003).
