The second onslaught of Danish noise-mongers Inimical was released upon mankind earlier this year. 'Lambs to the Slaughter' present four songs of extreme metal. Death metal and metalcore are the building blocks of this heavy-hammering trio.

Danish death metal is well-known for its heaviness. Just think about the likes of Illdisposed, Panzerchrist, Iniquity... This is where Inimical operate, too, taking the influences from Swedish crunch and riffage. And do it the groovy way, so I can throw the name of Lobotomy here. But what's more important is Inimical's song-writing skills. It's a bit too often, when a band can make it heavy and grooving, but by the cost of good memorable songs. Inimical throw a nice riff or a piece of melodic work here and there, keeping things interesting. 'Caught Within' smells of The Haunted. 'Deathspawn' is more slanted towards the metalcore roots (well, how fucking little do I know about it anyways), being more about rhythms and heaviness. And of course about aggression. There is one perfect word to describe how Inimical sound like: Pounding. Speed-wise this goes from blast beat to mid-paced neck-break tempo. 'Knife' does remind me of Sepultura, well not a much but choruses reverbing shouts must be a tribute to Brazilians. Vocals are beastly growled, not faggoty screamed. So, again another point for death metal!!!

A perfect style of metal to get a wake up on a multi-day festival's third mid day. Or just laying bare those aggressive emotions one can have. Nothing ground-breaking, but it does the job.
