This Californian band bring you what they promise to... Heavy and fast thrash metal, played straight from the hearts of these five guys. 'One by One, the Wicked Fall' is the self-released debut EP from this young band.
Influenced by old USA and German bands, this is true thrash metal. Surely, Warbringer don't invent the wheel, but they can write good songs and that's what matters nowadays when doing stuff like this. I'm not gonna name-drop any exact names, there's just so many things I'm hearing here. Let's say, that Warbringer's thrash metal is more Demolition Hammer than Metallica, more Kreator than Sodom. While certainly perfect for beer-swilling nights, Warbringer are biased towards more aggressive end of thrash metal. Even the band have mentioned, that they've included some death and black metal things here and there, I have to admit I'm not registering them. What I'm registering is the spirit of heavy metal lurking here and there. Anyways, a lot of riffs and some tasty lead guitar bustle is what you get.
Performance is good in all levels. I like rough throat vocals, that are screamed and spitted with fury and power. Sounds barbaric. Guitar tone is ripping, sounding kind of perfect. Bass is pretty loud in the mix, which gets a plus too. Drums sound drums, not machines (and playing isn't totally accurate, which also lifts the feeling), so... In all, this sounds very organic and live.
Warbringer are pure thrash metal, in both a good and a bad way. They can't sound unique, so it's all a bit faceless. But they do their stuff well, thanks to good song writing and powerful performance. They are working on their debut album at the moment, so that's when we really see if these guys are up to it.
