On this short player you can hear one of the world's prime grind bands covering their favourites from 1980s. Napalm Death (ND from now on) pay homage to six bands only. Produced by Simon Efemey and Russ Russell and recorded in three days, this is heavy and raw! Here's the songs:
- 'Politicians' by Raw Power (Italy): beginning as a laid back rock song (?!), this soon turns into a mad punk, with brutal duet vocals by Barney and Mitch. Quite kicking version by ND, but there's more fucked up things coming... I don't personally like these punk things very much thank you.
- 'Incinerator' by Slaughter (Canada): pounding track, this one! Heavy thrash stuff indeed, because the song is mid-paced, like a riot stomping over your head. Simple, yet excellent riffing.
- 'Demoniac Possession' by Pentagram (Chile): now we're getting into the real shit. A death/thrash metal song. Opening riff is just fatal! And wait those double bass drums... Great tempo changes throughout the song, so it is nowhere near boring. Marvellous!
- 'Maggots in Your Coffin' by Repulsion (USA): now this is familiar to me. Insane grinding madness about lying in your coffin and maggots eating everything they can! Of course this is better sounding, but still close to original.
- 'Back from the Dead' by Death (USA): from Death's demo tape, but opening riff is also used on 'Living Monstrosity' from 'Spiritual Healing' (1989). Good death metal track with excellent slow and pounding part. Fierce screaming on chorus.
- 'Nazi Punks Fuck off' by Dead Kennedys (USA): another familiar song. Rerecording of ND's classic cover, this is aggressive and fast punk. And it lasts only for 1 minute and 13 second...
...And after that there's 5 minutes of silence and after that some talking! Shit, I fucking hate this! When listening music with random option on on CD player, then comes this bloody pause... Aaaargh!!! Why couldn't they cover a couple of songs more?
But all in all, this is enjoyable descent into 1980s madness, and it is more vicious than Napalm Death's own two latest records ('Inside the Torn Apart' [1997] and 'Words from the Exit Wounds' [1998]).
