These fresh faces from Canada mix death, thrash, why not some traditional metal together, and whatnot! So, do they end up sounding deeply confusing or can they pull it out?
In any case, they are adventurous. In a whole, Deeply Confused are a very rhythmic affair, and the band also show some technicality, and actually I'm throwing the term "proggy" in the air. Clever bass lines, witty drumming, shredding guitars and some cool lead guitar melodies, but I don't like gremlin and metalcore screaming of the vocalist. Thankfully he resort to growling at times, no matter how ordinary it is. Synthesizer is utilized to bring in atmosphere, but mostly does not work as hoped to. Add some funk (especially bass) and "jazzy" guitaring and... The result is pretty individual metal, which contains bits from countless bands all the time, but I'm not gonna start naming them! At times, the songs stick well together, at other times they leak like an old dinghy. Working songs are 'Torments in the Shade of the Totem Pole', 'Five Fallacious Phrases' and 'And on the Screen...'. Lyrical content is like a breath of fresh air, since we have topics such as French discoverers of Canada meeting the aborigines, and an incest daddy videoing his evil doing, and 'Stuck in the Traffic with Kip Winger '... WTF?! The sound is sturdy and well-balanced all the way, but maybe sounding a bit too compressed and plastic.
Deeply Confused know how to play, but the songwriting is, well... Confusing. If they can resolve their output, I believe they could reach real heights. I do not mean they should drop their individual tags, but they should try to make the music more logical, which at the moment seems to be the other way around for a big part. Let's hope for the best, because this lot is skilled for sure, and when they can make their song roll, it's good stuff indeed.
