This, Autopsy Torment's second demo, is the total opposite of technical death metal. Easily the most primitive death metal I've ever heard. At the most basic, a song contains one riff. I can count six different riffs in all four songs! And five of these six riffs are really punky. Creeping pace of the music creates a feeling of decay, and the sole fast part can be heard on 'Rotting Flesh' (it is the other than that slow part, you'll notice it, hehe). No shiny solos heard here.
The vocals by Thomas "Unholy Pope" Karlsson (also in Devil Lee Rot and Pagan Rites) are more in the black metal style throaty shrieking, but there's some low ripping growls to be heard, too. Two intros with exorcising and conjuring ritual sounds offer some variety. The guitar is mixed quite down, especially on the two latter songs. Slapping bass (distorted on 'Consume Christ', I presume) and the drums are the strong elements together with the vocals. Everything echoes, building up the atmosphere that is suitably "morgue-ish".
This really does not feel like "darkest rituals" ever, but is surprisingly intoxicating and hypnotizing for such simple material. Usually, I find the most simplistic stuff boring. Actually, I find it truly BORING, but not this on demo. All you sickos searching for primitive-as-a-funeral-fuck stuff, hunt this one down. And no, I've never heard any other Autopsy Torment material so fuck off now and let me try it.
