In this age of thrash metal's new coming, how surprising is it, that many of the new breed of thrashers suck bollocks? I think one of the biggest reasons for it is the way how they simply want to make tributes to (read: steal from) the old classic bands.
Yeah, there're five other Devastators doing rounds at the moment, so it's a bit of a stunner they still can have this name, Italy's Devastator dare to break the boundaries of thrash metal and drag in some other styles of music. First, punk is nothing new when talking about thrash, and Devastator's choices are something like The Ramones and Poison Idea (I'm not really a walking lexicon of punk music, mind you). So good-time riffs, and on the other hand anarcho and oi! stuff, are heard. The second non-metal style Devastator fuck with is rock 'n' roll. While I don't like this style even a slightest bit, it still makes Devastator that much different. And actually I can take it without having any kind of spasms... When looking from the thrash metal point of view, Devastator have pretty sharp riffs and the music rolls like a brakeless steamroller. Plus the vocalist is fucking good! He's spitting out venom in both punk and thrash metal styles, and do both convincingly. Kind of punkier Tankard they are. Fifteen songs offer enough variety during these thirty minutes, thanks to wide influences. It is like the band haven't seen the 21st century. Hell, not even 1990s! Sound is good enough in its well balanced form, even though it could be a tad more kicking (heavier, that is).
When considering the styles Devastator mix, I should not listen to this, but as it is, I do. This, the band's third full length platter is a bonafide party album. The band perform it all with energy and credibility. Shit, I'm outta beer!
