By The Patient are a young band from Denmark, who mix several styles under the banner of "brutal death metal". 'Catenation of Adversity' is their second demo. The debut demo 'The Carcass Monologue (released in late 2008) never reached me, but I really want to hear it because of its wicked title! Well, back to this demo...
'Blank Visuals' begins with chaotic, grinding blasting. It's fast, it's brutal, but one thing that bothers me is that the guitars are somewhat buried and it is tough to hear the riffage properly. After a minute and 20 seconds slower part coordinates the song towards more apprehensible road, and The Haunted style guitar solo follows with some riffing in the vein of At The Gates. 'Stained Glass Revelations' is not a million miles from Aborted's groovy brutality with its blasting/slow fluctuation, only more grinding. This is how its continues until the end; grinding with groovy bits. The sound is problematic because of too loud and machiney drums. The guitars grind away, but are too muddy and left under the drumming. The vocals are low growling or nasty screaming in vein of Napalm Death's Mitch Harris.
'Catenation of Adversity' looks and sounds severe, but I miss the hooks. The blasting and grinding does benumb, if there is nothing to catch. And now there is just a few moments.
