Being another new acquaintance for me, these five maniacs collectively known as Prostitute Disfigurement (P.D. from now on) offer nothing truly new to death metal genre. However, it's still quite a tough job to draw any clear connections with P.D.'s influences. Except one: Cannibal Corpse. Some of P.D.'s nasty bowel-churning riffage sounds like 'The Bleeding' -era (1994) dirty deeds.
P.D. aren't straight copycats. Ugly bowel-churning riffing is accompanied by quite technical death metal, in vein of Cryptopsy and such, but P.D. never goes that far. Which is good by my ears. There are a lot of in-yer-face metal parts, which are the thing that really sticks to my mind. They might even be thrashy, at least some of the great solos are. It is no surprise, that pace of the music changes every little while. Playing is tight and energetic and totally accurate, plus very metal, since guitars are shrieking a lot and other instruments are tortured, too. So, nothing new, but certainly the guys sound happy with what they do. Soundwise this is good all around. I love that tight snare! This ain't very heavy, but at least it's clear. I do not have to quess what's happening, musicwise.
Vocalswise it is a different story altogether. Main vocals are fucking ugly! I mean way too ugly for my tastes, which seem to not be perverted enough. The main voice sounds like it is coming from guy's stomach. Very acid and muffled gurgling... Maybe he's eating his mic or then some effect's used. Okay, anyhow it sounds different, but totally non-understandable. Sometimes this gut-gurgling is accompanied by low or more high-pitched growling, thank-fucking-god. Of course there's some samples, talk or sick sound effects between the songs. This promotional copy haven't lyrics (what a fucking surprise), but by reading the song titles I guess the guys have a tad of misogynist in them? I quess it is better to live your fantasies through lyrics. Well, death metal is supposed to be extreme anyways, so no more about this issue. Cover art looks cool, very H.R. Giger-esque drawing.
The band's name surely raises some eyebrows. In a way or another. Hopefully their brutal take on death metal will, too. Easily above average and sometimes bloody great. I wouldn't pay full price for this, because of these bloody stomach-vokills just fucking annoy me! And this madness lasts only for 32 minutes, which might be a good thing actually. Not that this is bad, but if this would last for an hour I couldn't listen through the fucker. However, this still gets better all the time after six or so listenings. So all you sickos enjoying your perverted sex during ugly metal, try this now.
