Tomasz "Titus" Pukacki, the frontman of Polish crossover band Acid Drinkers has got his first solo album released. Just as Acid Drinkers' stuff varies quite a lot on one album alone, then 'La Peneratica Svavolya' is similarly a pretty varying package.
What is Titus Tommy Gunn, then? Mouth harp and drunk-ish singing on a song called 'The Bitch Is (still) Dead'... Not very promising. for starters! But soon enough the true nature of TTG surfaces: This album is mostly in vein of Motörhead, but also features different bits of NWOBHM from the golden age of 80s. Lively, loud bass lines are covered by liquid lead guitar work at times, which is really the most unique feature of the band (very well present on e.g. 'The Awakening' and on 'One Scotch Please'). On the latter it sounds like Big Country! Thrash metal bits are present, but also stoner rock, too, which actually feels a bit dispensable, just braking things up. The vocals are pretty Chris Boltendahl-ish, meaning powerful manly voice with a lot of vibration in it. The production is clear, but could be much punchier to really rock.
I find this album a fun to listen to, and I listened to it only as sober. I bet this sounds better when enjoying some beers while listening to it. A simple, rocking album with more character than most albums nowadays. And with some cool playing and songs, too. Well, this wasn't made for the latest hit-album, that must sell millions of copies...
