Swedish gore-sprinklers' 4th full-length is a pretty all-round platter of splatter when alloying death metal and grindcore. While Vomitory borrow and make their tributes to many a band, they still do it with such determination and skill, that it shouldn't leave any fan of brutal grinding death cold. If it does, then one in question is already a stiff before Vomitory's treatment.
Dark and up-tempo Swedish death metal is the basis of Vomitory. Ominous yet brutal riffage and blast beats alternate with grinding guitar work and d-beats are all around this album. The band managed to keep their songs interesting with not so much of alteration during these 33 minutes, but that was very much expected from these masters of brutality anyway. If the opener 'Chaos Fury' reminds me of Vader and 'Eternity Apppears' loans a lot from Bolt Thrower, it's just good ol' Swedish brutality that stinks here. 'Redeemer in Flames' slows into mid-paced fury at times, giving some required breathing space for the music, just like the title track at the end of the album. If you're looking for musical evolution or innovation, this is not the right album.
The production is as good as possible. Violently powerful, shredding and clean without losing the organic element. There is no room here for modern mechanic sound, which plagues so many extreme metal albums these days. Cover artwork is ugly or suitable, can't decide. However, the texts (mostly about killing and dying, and of course some critic toward Christianity), written in a bloody halloween-font give a wrong impression of the music: This is way more violent... At least band have more than a cool logo to go with!
You want a good death/grind album? Then pick up 'Blood Rapture', it'll give you blisters! Play loud to entertain your neighbours.
