History

viha (Finnish) anger, animosity, enmity, gall, hate, hatred, heat, wrath
liha (Finnish) flesh, meat

It all started in spring 2003 in Virkkala (a part of the town of Lohja), Finland, when Korpse-Eater got an idea of a grindcore band called Vihaliha and told his friend Fukkhead about the idea. Fukkhead was very excited and he said that as soon as he would learn how to play guitar he would found a grindcore band called Vihaliha. Because both Korpse-Eater and Fukkhead knew that it was very improbable that Fukkhead would ever learn how to play guitar, they decided to found the band right there, share the vocals and ask their guitarist friend Gordon to join the band. Pretty soon they asked if Gordon would like to grind with Korpse-Eater and Fukkhead under the name Vihaliha. He did.

In a lack of bass player and drummer, the boys decided to create their music with the help of a computer. Pretty soon they understood that it would bring a taste of machinery into the music, and so it was decided that Vihaliha would play some kind of mixture of industrial and grindcore, and Korpse-Eater created the term "grindustrial".

For a year nothing really happened. Korpse-Eater wrote some lyrics and Fukkhead and Gordon were up to their other activities. Finally at the end of the year the boys decided that it was time to get the band going. During one of the very first days of 2004 the first sessions were held at Virkkala Studios (Gordon's homestudio) and four songs were made. 'Disproportionate Bloodshed', 'For Maggots to Devour', 'Bodies Lie Broken' and 'I Kill, You Die' were also recorded on tape. Although this very first demotape wasn't spread anywhere and it sounded like shit, it was the first concrete creation of Vihaliha.

Some time after the first demotape the boys realized that a real bass player would be much better than some crappy machine, and so they asked if their long-time friend Frank would like to kick some ass with Vihaliha. Frank said yes.

During the spring Gordon and Korpse-Eater gathered at Virkkala Studios a few times to compile some drum backgrounds. Gordon composed the riffs later and recorded the backgrounds and guitars with his 8-tracker during March and April. The actual recordings of Vihaliha's first EP 'Viha' took place at Virkkala Studios between the 7th and 10th day of April when 20 songs of raw grindustrial were recorded. The result was released through Korpse-Eater's "label" Virkkala Rekords as a CD-R and a cassette.

But there was no time for rest. As soon as Viha got released, Vihaliha started composing new material for their next release, the second EP titled naturally 'Liha'. Between April and July 2004 21 new songs were composed and recorded. The material was more experimental and deranged than ever before. In August 'Liha' was finally unleashed.

During the summer 2004 Vihaliha also made 6 songs for the split EP with the local metallic hardcore band Frenesis. This time the band used real drums instead of a drum machine and the result was experimental grindcore with death, thrash, punk and rock influences. The split came out through Virkkala Rekords in November.

In the fall Vihaliha started to compose material for a planned split release with British noisegrinders Homoerotic Bob. After the successful experiment with real drums the band was back with the machinery, and electronic elements were in a strong position again. The finalizing of the material took longer than the band had thought, and when the material was finally ready in spring 2005, it was decided that the split project would be buried and the material released as 'Rotten Flesh' EP in May.

Before 'Rotten Flesh' even got its final release, Vihaliha was already composing new material for the 'Grindwank' concept split with the Ojamo industrial artist and band's long-time supporter Halogeeni. Instead of the usual killing and raping in the lyrics, this time the lyrical content dealt with a subject that all the band members knew more than well: masturbation. After the more electronic sound of 'Rotten Flesh' real drums were along again.

Before the end of the year it was time to realize the idea of a Christmas split with the local santagrind artist Väliliha. The release presents two tracks from both and is available only during December when it can be downloaded and ordered through Vihaliha's website. 'Grindmass' is burned on 3-inch CD-Rs and packaged in red paper covers.
