History

The Oulu-based collective of death metal ambassadors, Clock Paradox emerged from the ashes of Impish in early 2009 when Antti Karhu and Jyrki Hiltunen determined to continue to pursue the groovy and progressive, yet brutal approach to metal. The duo plotted their musical direction for a brief while prior to the joining of drummer Jani Kuorikoski (from Depth Beyond One'S and Joint Depression). As a result of the core line-up being established, initial rehearsals proved to be very productive and the material for the first promotional release was ripe enough to be harvested.

Simultaneously, the band was in search for a bassist to complement their ranks. Timo Tyynismaa contacted the band, mastered the formal auditions and topped it by being a perfect fit for the chemistry within the band. With the help of Timo in the five-stringer, Clock Paradox executed the recording sessions for the first promotional release and put together a couple of shows in their hometown. The response was positive, which fuelled the fire and lubed the engine to quickly record the remaining material for yet another promotional disc.

After the second recording, entitled 'Promosexual2009', saw the daylight in the end of 2009, Antti decided to retire from the vocal duties and centralize his focus on guitars. The quartet put up an open search for vocalist via internet in January 2010. Few candidates were willing to accept the challenge, but after being interviewed and auditioned, the band decided to recruit a powerful-voiced young lad named Jouni Koskela (from Abysmalia) to complete the line-up.

As a five-piece orchestra, the band rehearsed intensively and brainstormed an abundance of new material. A small number of gigs were played at local venues throughout the year 2010, earning solely positive feedback from the audience. Extensive rehearsing subsequently resulted in more focused and careful arrangements on the new material, and eventually the band would start recording the third promotional release in November 2010. Being recorded, mixed and mastered by the new vocalist Jouni Koskela, 'The Five Precepts' hit the toll-free internet distribution in December 2010.

In 2011, the band was rehearsing and writing new material. Technical and progressive death metal album 'Egotheism' was the result. This 8-song album was recorded between January and August 2012 by Jouni Koskela.

Second full-length album 'Opium' was released digitally in August 2015. It is a more mature and more complete follow-up to 'Egotheism'. The compositions and arrangements are more thought-out, the production improved and the thematic elements are more multi-dimensionally woven. Musically, the band aimed to improve the aggression while simultaneously maintaining the atmospheric and versatile elements to their progressive death concoction. Lyrically, 'Opium' tells a story of a person who views the world quite directly in an opposing manner than its narrative counterpart on 'Egotheism'.

With Antti Karhu moving to Helsinki, Jani Kuorikoski and Jyrki Hiltunen forming their own grindcore band Napalm Ted, Timo Tyynismaa investing more of his time into his blooming brewery business and Jouni Koskela focusing on other projects, it would become too consuming to find time and motivation for a small band such as us to operate at a productive level under such circumstances. So, the band came to its end in August 2015.
